The Brooksville Education Foundation & Project Read Up!
Project Read Up! is a partnership of the Brooksville Education Foundation, the Brooksville Free Public Library, and the Brooksville Elementary School. It is dedicated to helping young readers and their parents lay a foundation for success in school and life through the pleasures of reading.
Its first undertaking is to sponsor the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Brooksville.
What is Dolly Parton's Imagination Library?
It is a 60 volume set of books beginning with the children’s classic The Little Engine That Could. Once your child is enrolled a new, free book will be mailed directly to them at home each month .
In 1995, the Imagination Library was launched by Dolly Parton to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month. She wanted children to be excited about books, to feel the magic that books can create and to ensure that every child could have books, regardless of their family’s income.
In 2000 she made the program available for replication to any community that was willing to partner with her. There are currently over 1600 local communities that provide Imagination Library books to over 750,000 children each and every month.
More information about the Imagination Library can be found at its web site imaginationlibrary.com.
